Bits & Bites from Jini

Hello everyone!

Good bye summer and Hello Rainy Weather!

Last month I was feeling pretty snug soaking up the last warm rays of sunshine, enjoying the colours and bounty of the fall season.  Yikes! we are turning into ducks  with this unstoppable rain we've had for more than a week!  So I thought it is time to do something fun to chase away the damp spirits, and be Good Samaritans at the same time.

So, I am having an Open House, and you are cordially invited!

Jini's Annual Pre-Christmas Open House

Featuring foods from around the world

Please come prepared to meet lots of friendly people, have fun, enjoy some goodies and mulled apple cider to cheer you up!

Bring your own favourite recipes for a recipe swap.

You will also have a chance to pick up some stocking-stuffers from an amazing assortment of beautiful hand-made silk totes, table runners, place mats and jewellery from India.  All proceeds will go to buy sewing machines and provide training for under-privileged women in India.

I am really looking forward to welcoming you and catching up with what's new.

Combining food, fun and friends!

Cooking Classes: Jini at a cooking classGreetings to all of you who attended my Spring session Cooking classes at Delta School Board, and hope you continue to indulge in your culinary pleasures!  The high-light for Spring was 'French Cooking at home with Chef Kash' and '30-minute meals' along the lines of Rachel Ray.  I love her relaxed, casual style and great ideas.

Thanks also to the folks at Kitchen Therapy (a fabulous cook shop) at Morgan Crossing in White Rock who hosted my Mexican Cooking class.

Recipes to fill your noses and tummies with Christmas cheer

Tips for EASY Holiday Entertaining

Tip 1: First decide who you want to invite and when. Pick the best time and day for you, so that you have enough time to plan and prepare everything Once you decide on the time and day, the next thing is to decide whether you are serving a brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, appetizers and wine, or dinner. Pick whatever is easiest for you!

Jini's Cran-apple Mulled wine

Here's a nice non-alcoholic drink that is sure to warm your friends as they come in from the cold. Serve with a dash of red wine, if they prefer.

What you need:
1 bottle Cranberry juice
1 bottle apple juice
2 Tablespoons mulling spice

Make it:
Pour juice and spices into a crock pot and keep it simmering for 1 or 2 hours before your guests arrive. Your house will be filled with the inviting aroma of Christmas spices.

Gorgeous Table Décor

Put oranges in a tall glass container.  Add some cranberries and float tea lights
or, wrap oranges with a cross of red ribbon and stud the flesh with cloves. Scatter them on the table or pop them into a glass bowl. They smell better each day.

After Christmas, once the oranges are completely dry, pop some into the back of your wardrobe to freshen your clothes.

Take advantage of the Holiday Season to create some warm and lasting memories of 2009..enjoy!

Don't forget that food, friends and fun go hand-in-hand!

Until next month... happy cooking!
